  • Researching the Impact of Personalized Learning
"The Researching the Impact of Personalized Learning (RIPL) project revealed common characteristics and shared teaching and learning patterns. Through descriptive research conducted by the University of Wisconsin, the Institute has begun to understand how commitment to high-leverage personalized learning practices is helping to transform traditional schools into learning environments that improve teaching and learning for all students. The project has positioned us to begin to map how transformational ideas are adopted by educators, identify practices that can guide innovation on the ground, and help educators and policy makers develop assessment tools that measure the degree to which strategies improve learning."

  • Continued Progress: Promising Evidence on Personalized Learning
"The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has engaged RAND to carry out an ongoing study of foundation-funded schools that are employing promising approaches to personalized learning. This research is part of a public commitment the foundation has made to spread effective practices across districts and charter networks, develop innovative roles for teachers, and support implementation of college-ready standards. This is the second report in a series focused on the achievement data, school design characteristics, and teacher and student perceptions of schools implementing personalized learning."

  • The Growing Diversity in Today's Classroom
"The makeup of the U.S. K-12 public school student population has changed dramatically over the last 50 years. Students today are more diverse across many categories, including linguistics, culture, geography, and socioeconomics. Even the most capable educator cannot meet this demand for personalization without appropriate support. In response, the system must shift to a fundamentally different model that supports a personalized learning approach that addresses the growing diversity."

  • Informing Progress: Insights on Personalized Learning Implementation and Effects
"We collected data from schools in the Next Generation Learning Challenges (NGLC)'s Breakthrough School Models program. Our study seeks to describe the practices and strategies these schools used to implement personalized learning, understand some of the challenges and facilitators, and consider these alongside achievement findings to discern patterns that may be informative."

  • Research and the Promise of Personalized Learning
"Effective classroom teachers have always personalized learning. But they have done so with limited structural supports, such as curriculum, pedagogy, tools, and resources specifically designed to support personalization. For the education community to bring personalized learning more systematically to many more learners, we need to leverage the research about how students learn so we can improve the accuracy and precision of personalization."

  • Learning Independence Curriculum
Learners who see themselves as having the power to learn and succeed are more likely to focus on selecting the best strategies, persisting until they
prevail, and marshaling the resources that will be most helpful to achieving their goals.
